π±Cell Phone Recycling –
Answer the Call of the Wild!
Join the Cincinnati Zoo’s effort to protect wildlife and the environment by recycling your old cell phones.
The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is partnering with local schools, businesses, and communities to raise awareness and take conservation action through a cell phone recycling campaign.
By recycling your cell phone, you’ll help:
- Support the Zoo’s Conservation Fund, including the Mbeli Bai gorilla field study.
- Keep toxic materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic out of landfills.
- Reduce demand for Coltan, a mineral mined in areas inhabited by endangered gorillas in Africa.
Each recycled phone makes a real difference — protecting gorillas, their environment, and our planet.
Did You Know?
- Americans buy a new cell phone about every 18 months.
- There are over 270 million cell phone users in the U.S. and 4.1 billion worldwide.
- Yet, less than 1% of discarded phones are recycled.
Through this program, Eco-Cell refurbishes usable phones for emergency use and safely recycles all others in accordance with EPA-certified guidelines.
