SMOKE DETECTORS

Smoke detectors save lives. All homes should have them. Batteries should be changed twice a year. Any detector 10 years old or greater should be replaced. They do wear out. In most fires, smoke detectors will give enough warning for all occupants to get out safely and call the fire department.

The Green Township Department of Fire & EMS will assist residents who are unable to install battery operated smoke detectors. We will also assist residents in changing batteries in smoke detectors whenever possible. We do ask that residents supply the new batteries, if at all possible. We are unable to provide assistance in replacing smoke detectors powered by alarm systems or AC power, since these require special tools or an electrician.
