Driveway Apron, Pavement Opening, and Right-of-Way Excavation Permits
Jurisdiction and Where to Apply
Before applying for a permit, please note that not all roads within Green Township are Township-maintained.
Permit responsibility depends on which agency owns the roadway.
- Township Roads:
Typically, neighborhood and subdivision streets.
→ Permits issued by the Green Township Public Services Department
- County Roads:
Usually identified by a double yellow line down the center (e.g., Bridgetown Road, Ebenezer Road).
→ Contact the Hamilton County Engineer’s Office
- State Roads:
Include interstates and state routes (e.g., I-74, U.S. 50, S.R. 264).
→ Contact the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)

Basic Procedures and Specifications:
Driveway Apron Permits
Driveway Apron Section (Depth):
All apron improvements within the Township public right-of-way (R.O.W.) shall meet the following minimum requirements:
- Concrete: 7 inches minimum depth, Class C (4000 or 4500 Type), full-depth with no reinforcement steel. Expansion joint material must be placed adjacent to curbs and walks.
- Asphalt: 10 inches total (7" ± compacted B-19 stone base topped with 3" ODOT 404 asphalt).
Culvert Pipe Requirements:
If a culvert pipe is required for drainage, the minimum diameter is 12 inches.
All pipes must meet Hamilton County standards for right-of-way culvert pipe type and placement.
New Subdivisions:
All work must comply with Hamilton County Subdivision Standards for driveway apron location, configuration, slope, and sidewalk placement.
Inspection Requirements
Two inspections are required to complete the permit process.

- Form Inspection:
After the existing driveway apron or soil has been removed to the required depth, forms are set. - Final Inspection:
After forms are stripped, the apron area is backfilled, and all disturbed soil has been seeded, mulched, or sodded.
Note: A 24-hour notice is required for all inspections.
If the permit holder does not request a final inspection within one (1) year of permit issuance, the permit will be nullified, and a new permit must be obtained.
Pipe Installation / Open Pavement
Material Specifications:
A 3-inch Schedule 40 pipe is required.
If a larger pipe is used, it must be reduced to fit the Township’s 3-inch connection.
Inspection Requirements:
- First Inspection: After the curb cut is made.
- Final Inspection: Before the pipe is covered.
