Free Smoke Detectors Available
Smoke detectors save lives. All homes should have them. Batteries should be changed twice a year. Any detector 10 years old or greater should be replaced. They do wear out. If you have questions about smoke detectors, contact your local fire department.
The Green Township Fire Department, in cooperation with the American Red Cross, is offering free smoke detectors to township residents who need them. The Fire Department will also install detectors if needed. All homes should have smoke detectors, and any detector over ten years old should be replaced. This program is designed to assist persons unable to afford smoke detectors, or who are unable to obtain or install them on their own.
In most fires, smoke detectors will give enough warning for all occupants to get out safely and call the fire department. We are removing the hurdle of cost. Now there is no reason anyone should die in a fire in the home. We will supply the detector and install it for any township resident. If someone needs a battery for an existing detector, we’ll supply those too.
Anyone in need of a smoke detector or knowing someone who needs one can call the Green Township Fire Department Fire Education Line at 574-4111.
